On a forum?

Postby blackbladen on Sun Jul 04, 2010 3:57 am

I'm kinda new here so I don't know how this works. I was looking for a page with copyright information but only found a thread on the topic, I'm still confused :nowords:

Are we allowed to use the Emoticons and Avatars on our own forums? Also, if we need to get permission, who do we get it from and how do we contact them?

:smarty: The onion emoticons, comic strips, and avatars are free and can be used in forums, etc.,
as long as you don't claim them as your own creation, promote them as your own products
with intent to sell, or just trying to make money off of them, and thereby infringing the
Creative Commons copyright. The onions are legally copyright to Ethan Liu, creator of the
onions. This website is the only International English Onion Club that is officially acknowledged
by Ethan Liu outside of Taiwan. To be more specific, Ethan Liu's Creative Commons
copyright on his official Taiwan blog states:

You are free: to Share — to copy, distribute and transmit the work.

Under the following conditions:

Attribution — You must attribute the work in the manner specified by the author or licensor
(but not in any way that suggests that they endorse you or your use of the work).

Attribute this work: Information

What does "Attribute this work" mean?
The page you came from contained embedded licensing metadata, including how the creator wishes to be attributed for re-use. You can use the HTML here to cite the work. Doing so will also include metadata on your page so that others can find the original work as well.

Noncommercial — You may not use this work for commercial purposes.
No Derivative Works — You may not alter, transform, or build upon this work.

Ah okay, but one more question. About the Metadata, is it necessary to include this on my board somehow?

:shower: Basically, what you need to do is put on a link sticker button on your forum. You can find 2 in Ethan's
official Taiwan forum with the embedded codes here, http://blog.roodo.com/onion_club/archives/2939089.html

:hrelax: If you look on the initial front page of this forum towards the left and down the page where it says
"link to us" you can use that sticker embedded code as well to link both of the 2 official Onion Club forums,
Ethan's and the English Forum to yours. That way, you're satisfying Ethan's Creative Commons copyright as
you are showing where you are getting the onions from to use on your forum.

Okay one last question, where would I put this on a Zetaboards forum?

EDIT: Never mind, I think I see now. There's space in the portal
